English and Finance BA (Hons): XJTLU 2+2 programme

Course overview

One of the only degrees of its kind offered in the UK, our BA English and Finance degree programme is offered exclusively to students from Xi’an Jiatong-Liverpool University (XJTLU). You will complete the first two years of study at XJTLU before finishing the final two years of your degree at the University of Liverpool. Your studies at Liverpool will be split evenly between their study of English and Finance.

The English aspect of the degree aims to provide understanding of the historical, social and psychological factors that shape the English Language as used in everyday life. All our teaching is research-led and seeks to foster the spirit of independent learning and research in our students.

The Finance aspect of the degree is designed to provide a platform to students who may wish to pursue a future career in either accounting or finance. It has a theoretical and practice-led approach covering the core aspects of financial accounting/reporting and financial management. It also allows students to select optional modules in areas such as financial crises, banking, behavioural finance and corporate governance. Many of the modules that students will study are similar in nature to those studied for professional qualifications in accounting and finance, such as the ICAEW, ACCA and CFA qualifications.

While the two individual strands of the degree are quite different, both subjects will help students to formulate complex, evidence-based arguments. Furthermore, a nuanced grasp of the English language will be a real asset to students who seek careers in finance after graduation. Training in communication, interpretation and persuasion, as well as financial management, will also allow you to develop a more entrepreneurial approach in your future career.
