From Coast to Canvas: Abstract Art in 20th Century Cornwall
A single session on campus on Saturday 21 March, 10am - 4pm. Not ready for enrolment. Details will be added soon.
Overview
If you are interested in abstract art and want to take a closer look at how this style developed, then this course offers you a great introduction through the lens of key figures that shaped Cornwall's unique contribution to 20th-century abstract art.
We will discuss the works of renowned artists whose work is anchored in the landscape of Cornwall such as Ben Nicholson, Barbara Hepworth, Peter Lanyon, Ben Nicholson, Marlow Moss, Terry Frost and Wilhelmina Barns-Graham but also consider less well-known artists. The art colony of St Ives is very important to the story of modernism and the Avant Garde in the first half of the 20c and we explore this history in some detail but widen the scope of our study to include other significant Cornish places and landscapes.
No previous experience is necessary for this close study of abstract art in Cornwall.
