One of LCI’s main objectives is further to promote multilingual learning and cross-cultural exchanges in local schools. Across October, the institute’s staff have collaborated with three schools to deliver a series of Chinese language and cultural activities.

These sessions covered language experience, Chinese knot making, Chinese painting, and traditional games. By incorporating practical elements into the teaching, these sessions helped engage students in learning about the beauty of Chinese culture.

At the start of October, LCI participated in the International Language Day event held at Childwall Sports and Science Academy. The event helped local primary and secondary school students and their parents gain a deeper understanding of the cultural connotations behind different languages. The LCI team guided students through Chinese woodblock printing, traditional Chinese dance, traditional games, and other forms of traditional art.

The following week, Tutors from LCI visited Formby High School in northern Liverpool, offering a Chinese introduction class and a Chinese culture workshop to school students. Ms Jin Rong from LCI shared and demonstrated how to make Chinese knots. Starting with basic knotting techniques, the activity explained the auspicious meanings and aesthetic characteristics of Chinese knots.

Later that day, LCI hosted teachers and students from All Saints Catholic High School. Cultural experience activities were arranged, including a Chinese language class, Chinese painting, and traditional Chinese games.
