MChem degrees
MChem degrees are aimed at those already keen on a career as a professional Chemist and contain a large element of chemical research, particularly in the Fourth Year.
MChem Chemistry (F102) - 4 Years
If you’re passionate about chemistry and want to take your knowledge to the next level, our MChem Chemistry programme is the ideal choice. Building on your A-level studies, this integrated master’s degree offers a strong foundation with the freedom to explore a broad range of topics or specialise in areas that excite you. In your final year, you’ll dive deeper through advanced modules and a research project—perfect preparation for a PhD, a research career, or simply pushing the boundaries of your curiosity. Many of our students even contribute to published scientific research during their studies.
MChem Chemistry with Research in Industry (F161) – 4 Years
If you’re passionate about chemistry and excited by the idea of research in the real world, our MChem Chemistry with Research in Industry is the perfect choice. You’ll gain a solid foundation in core chemistry, explore specialist areas, and take part in a hands-on research placement within industry. This unique experience will deepen your scientific skills, boost your employability, and give you a competitive edge for your future career—all while making real contributions to the field of chemistry.
BSc programmes
BSc programmes offer a good platform for you if you want to pursue other careers within or outside chemistry, or if you wish to take further postgraduate training in, for example, education (PGCE) or in a specialised Masters programme.
BSc Chemistry (F100) - 3 years

BSc Chemistry with a Year in Industry (F111) - 4 years
Take your passion for chemistry beyond the lecture theatre with our BSc Chemistry with a Year in Industry programme. Alongside core chemistry and specialisation options, you’ll gain invaluable real-world experience through a year-long industry placement. Apply your growing knowledge in a professional setting, build essential employability skills, and explore career pathways—all while gaining a deeper understanding of how chemistry transforms the world around us.
Medicinal Chemistry programmes
Research expertise within Chemistry and strong links with the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics allow us to offer bespoke Medicinal Chemistry programmes at both BSc and MChem level. These programmes include modules from both departments, whilst still maintaining the same Chemistry core as our other programmes. This gives you the opportunity to undertake a truly multidisciplinary degree.
BSc Medicinal Chemistry (F1B2) - 3 years

MChem Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacology (F1BF) - 4 years

Thinking about the Future?
The programme will enable students to relate the concepts and techniques of AI, automation, robotics and machine learning to their applications in chemistry research. Students will extend specific skills and knowledge to a level at which they will be prepared for contemporary and pioneering professional practice or further study at the doctoral level.
Study Abroad
For various courses we also have study abroad variations of these programme codes. For students wishing to gain Industrial work experience during their degree we also offer Year in Industry programmes at both BSc and MChem level. Our global opportunities team can support you with this experience.
