About us

The School of Allied Health Professions and Nursing is based in the Institute of Population Health. For over a hundred years, we've trained and educated healthcare professionals. We have established ourselves as one of the world's most respected healthcare education and research providers.

We have a proud heritage in educating healthcare professionals, and we carry this legacy forward with a profound sense of responsibility. Our purpose is to develop the next generation of the healthcare workforce—compassionate, resilient, and assertive leaders ready to make a tangible difference.

This shapes everything we do. Our programmes are designed to be rigorous and responsive, championing inclusivity and diversity while empowering students with choice and flexibility in their learning. We embed signature teaching methods authentic to each profession, alongside a strong focus on digital and clinical skills to ensure our graduates can deliver the most effective, evidence-based care.

Theory is vital, but expertise is honed through practice. Our investment in advanced simulation environments allows students to refine their clinical and communication skills in a safe setting. This, combined with hands-on experience, cultivates confident, critical thinkers who understand that healthcare is a team effort.

I am incredibly proud of our School’s heritage and even more excited about its future. Our goal is simple yet ambitious: to produce graduates who are not just skilled clinicians, but kind, strong and assertive leaders who will shape the future of healthcare for the better.

Dr Vicky Thornton, Dean of the School of Allied Health Professions and Nursing
