Placement support

Applying for a placement is a competitive process. Students can expect lots of tailored support from experienced staff and current students before, during and after their placement year.

Before going on placement

There is lots of support available to students in the process of applying for and preparing to go on a placement, including:

• Dedicated Employability and Student Support team, based in the Management School
• University Careers and Employability and Student Support services
• Careers Coaches
• Employer and alumni events.

Support on placement

When on placement, every student is assigned their own university supervisor, alongside having a workplace line manager. The university supervisor visits students at their workplace a couple of times during the placement.

The univeristy supervisor and Year in Industry support team are available to respond to any queries students may have, and able to offer support throughout the year.

Returning to campus

After completing a placement year, students return to campus for their fourth and final year.

Sessions are run at the start of semester one, to re-acquaint students with the academic environment and to look at future opportunities, such as graduate roles or postgraduate study opportunities.

Going on placement is an opportunity to grow your network and develop employability skills. We find that many students who return for their final year, apply the ‘9- 5’ work routine to their study habits. In the classroom, students can more easily link theory to practice, following their extended time in a professional setting.
