Congratulations to Dr Yigit Oezcelik for winning the 2025 European Economic Association Award (EEA) for Exceptional Teaching (Junior).
The EEA and this award is a recognition of his exceptional dedication to teaching excellence and innovation, which has had an outstanding impact on student learning and experience.
Yigit's student centred, and research-led approach to teaching uses innovative tools including scenario-based reflection questions, audience polling software and critical analysis of AI-generated essays.
Earlier this year he was recognised at the University of Liverpool Learning, Teaching and Student Experience Awards for his pioneering use of digital exit tickets in teaching and has also been nominated for “Teacher of the Year” in 2023 and 2024.
His commitment to evidence-based practice extends beyond the classroom through his ongoing research on teaching effectiveness, sharing insights via departmental workshops and external platforms.
Yigit’s passion and commitment to supporting students throughout their study journey is clear through his work as Director of Studies for BSc Economics, his role as an Academic Advisor and Mentor to current and graduated students.
We look forward to sharing updates from the award ceremony, which will take place Monday, 25th August, during the Education Committee workshop at the EEA Congress in Bordeaux.
