About us
Built on a strong research environment, the School offers taught degree programmes at both BEng and MEng levels in Aerospace, Civil and Mechanical Engineering and Product Design. The School also offers MSc programmes in these fields as well as Biomedical and Nuclear Engineering and Manufacturing.
As part of a research-led Russell Group university, the School attracts substantial research funding and has active collaborative contacts with several major industries and universities in the UK and abroad. We invest heavily in our staff, with mentoring, training and resources and continuously aim to help them progress their careers.
Our departments
The School is made up of three departments: Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the Department of Materials, Design and Manufacturing Engineering.

Teaching and research in the Department covers many engineering and design disciplines in fields including structural engineering, sustainable construction materials.

With leading expertise in materials, design and manufacturing our research and teaching supports Biomedical, Nuclear, Surface and Laser Engineering, Novel Sustainable Materials Development and Advanced Manufacturing and Healthcare Technologies.

Our department has a wide range of expertise from fundamental fluid mechanics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and mechanics, to solar, wind, and thermal energy technologies.
