Researchers gather in China for Postgraduate Development Conference
Last week (11 - 16 December 2023), Professor Susan Pickard and Professor Barry Godfrey represented the University of Liverpool at the First Wisdom Lake Postgraduate Researcher Development Conference, hosted by Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University.
The conference welcomed over 700 doctoral researchers from a wide range of disciplinary areas; academics; and policy makers, to China to engage in innovative discussion.

Professor Susan Pickard delivered the keynote lecture, focussed on ageing and the life course, gender and social development, local governance, urbanisation and migration. Particular attention was given to existing collaborations between the University of Liverpool's Centre for Ageing and the Life Course and the XIPU Think Tank, coordinated by Dr Yu Song, XJTLU, and Professor Susan Pickard, Department of Sociology, Social Policy, and Criminology.
Professor Qiuling Chao, Vice President for Student Affairs and Information, XJTLU, said:
"The event was designed to promote exchanges between doctoral students engaged in different fields and provide them with a platform to share their expertise and broaden their horizons."
The delegation also planned further staff and student exchanges across the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences with members of XJTLU SMT and the Graduate School.
