Information for participating veterinary practices
Information and resources for those practices who have signed up to use the services of the Small Animal Veterinary Surveillance Network (SAVSNET).
If you're working for a veterinary practice participating in SAVSNET, you need to ensure you make information about SAVSNET available to your clients. This allows your clients to find out about the project and decide if they wish to take part.
On this page, we'll introduce you to our information portal for visualising your practice's data, as well as sharing resources about SAVSNET that can be viewed, shared, downloaded or printed.
Information portal
All veterinary practices participating in SAVSNET receive access to a free online secure information portal. This portal enables you to visualise your practice's data, as well as anonymously benchmark against other practices participating in SAVSNET.
Tools available through the portal include:
- Benchmarking a variety of key performance indicators such as neutering and microchipping
- Tracking syndromes seen in the practice over time
- Understanding the potential needs of your client base
- Reviewing and benchmarking antibiotic usage according to the classification of antibiotic and species. A screen shown below.
Access the SAVSNET information portal.
If your practice is still to register for the information portal, please contact us to arrange access.
Summary sheet for clients
Download our SAVSNET practice summary sheet (PDF, 743KB) for a one-page overview of SAVSNET you can share with your clients.
Statement for invoices

Your practice takes part in the Small Animal Veterinary Surveillance Network (SAVSNET) based at the University of Liverpool. For more information on SAVSNET, or to remove your animal's data after a veterinary consultation, please visit www.liverpool.ac.uk/savsnet.
Troubleshooting SAVSNET software
If you encounter any technical issues with the SAVSNET software, we're here to help. We've shared some tips below on what to do if the SAVSNET window doesn't appear, appears when you don't expect it, or if it freezes. You can also contact us with any queries and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.
The SAVSNET window does not appear
Has your practice been activated by SAVSNET?
Before you start submitting data to SAVSNET, we liaise with your practice management system provider to set the software up in the background. Once this is done, we'll confirm a date with your practice for when SAVSNET will start. If you haven’t received a practice pack with posters and booklets, or had a start date confirmed, this means your practice hasn't been activated yet.
Are you accessing consults through the diary?
Records are accessed for many reasons outside of a consultation. As a result of this, the SAVSNET software is set up only to recognise consults when the records are accessed through the diary only, otherwise the window would appear every time a record is accessed.
When accessing consults through the diary, once clinical notes have been entered and products charged, you need to end the consult and send it through to reception to take payment. This will trigger the SAVSNET window.
Are your internet security settings are preventing the window from appearing?
You can check this by looking at the security settings in your browser and adding the SAVSNET information portal, https://savsnetpro.liv.ac.uk, to your list of trusted sites.
The SAVSNET window appears outside of a consultation
Are you accessing records through the diary?
If you access records through the diary, it will appear as a consultation to the SAVSNET software and trigger the window. If you need to access records for any reason other than to consult, you should use the "search" function. This won’t be recognised as a consultation and the window won’t appear.
The SAVSNET window freezes
This is likely due to slow internet. The SAVSNET window has a timeout mechanism so if it recognises that slow internet is stopping the window from appearing in a reasonable time, it won’t appear at all, so as to not interfere with your workflow.
We recommend checking your internet speed and talking to your provider if the speed is slow.
