Dr Andrew Holmes is a Researcher Developer focussing on Research Staff at the University of Liverpool. Prior to joining the Researcher Development & Culture team, Andrew was a member of the Prosper team, supporting career development for postdocs and leading the Managers of Researchers strand. Andrew is passionate about supporting early career researchers and brings his experiences as a postdoc and a research developer to his role.

Reflections from the PGR-Postdoc Buddy Scheme
Dr Bengt Tegner is a physicist working in computational chemistry, based in the Troisi Group at the Materials Innovation Factory. He is also Deputy Co-Chair of the Research Staff Association (RSA). Bengt’s research is currently focused on high-throughput virtual screening and machine learning. Previously, he was a member of the Rosseinsky Group, where he studied catalysis and separation in metal-organic frameworks. Away from the lab, Bengt likes to do outdoor sports like climbing, running, and skiing.

My experience joining the Research Steering Association
Alexandra joined the department of Health Data Science as a research assistant specialising in Prediction modelling. Working on several projects across the week, she has also begun a part time PhD to gain her Doctorate in Health Data Science. Alexandra’s PhD project will develop and validate a clinical prediction model to predict the risk of emergency caesarean births in mothers giving birth for the first time.

Buddy Scheme
One of the benefits of working at an institution like the University of Liverpool is connecting with fellow researchers and hearing about the ground-breaking projects that they are working on. But, if we’re being honest with ourselves, how many other postdocs and researchers do we really know from within the university? I’m not asking about researchers in our own Departments or Institutes, but researchers from across campus, based in Schools and Faculties that we know little about? I would guess that the answer is ‘not many.’ If so, you’re not alone.

The Research Staff Association (RSA) recently conducted a focus group to assess the awareness and access to HR policies and the employee assistance programme at Liverpool.
