Project profile
As part of the University's planned expansion for the Management School, ULCCO SP was commissioned to collaboratively work with the Managment School, the University's Senior Project Manager and the design team to develop a design that provided a best value construction budget for a 2454m2 four storey extension to the existing building, along with refurbishing part of the existing floor areas.
The new extension and refurbishment has provided high class finishing's, contributing to a modern vibrant teaching environment as follows:
- Trading Floor area
- Computer suites
- Case pits and seminar areas
- Academic offices and general teaching
- Admin offices
- Cafe, coffee shop and breakout areas.
Project evaluation
- Early engagement of the main contractor resulting in collaborative working of the whole project team
- Open protocol of commercial management with lifecycle costing consideration
- Develop the design in conjection with maximising programme delivery from inception in December 2014 to completion mid 2016
- The benefit of using an "in house" contractor in terms of delivery and quality with a non adversarial approach and the clients interest at the forefront of all decision making.
"Throughout the project the ULCCO SP team has fully engaged with the School, being honest, open and responsive from the outset. This has contributed to the success of the project and helped ensure that the extension and refurbishment opened on time, ready to welcome students for the academic year in September 2016. The excellent management of the site should be used as an exemplar for other buildings on campus, as the project team have worked closely with the School to ensure its vision and aim to build a high quality space that will improve the student experience in a modern teaching environment has been successfully achieved.
