Research

Dr Boyd's PhD involved the pre-clinical evaluation of antimicrobials across a range of models of infection and the construction of mathematical models that describe pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic (PK-PD) relationships. In addition, she used RT-qPCR and WGS to explore the emergence of drug resistance under clinically relevant drug exposures. She also used high resolution MALDI Mass Spectrometry Imaging to explore drug penetration in the lung. This research spanned a collaboration between the Centre for Antimicrobial Pharmacodynamics (CAP) at the University of Liverpool, Hoffman la Roche and the NIHR Health Protection Research Unit (HPRU) for healthcare associated infection and antimicrobial resistance at Imperial College London. Her current research builds upon this in addition to other interests in antimicrobial susceptibility testing and diagnostics, antimicrobial stewardship including online access to antimicrobial medicines, and the contribution of human conflict to the development of antimicrobial resistance and multidrug-resistant infections.
