About
Rob Beynon earned his PhD at University of Wales in 1978. He began his career at the University of Liverpool and in 1993 was appointed to the Chair of Biochemistry at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology. He assumed his current position of Chair of Proteomics, University of Liverpool in 1999. He has authored over 290 papers with a GS H-index of 55. In particular, his research programmes are dedicated to the application of modern methods of protein analysis to problems in biology. He has won several prizes for teaching innovation and research, and in 2015 was elected as a Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales.
With Claire Eyers (Chair of Biological Mass Spectrometry), Rob co-leads the Centre for Proteome Research (www.liv.ac.uk/cpr), a state of the art laboratory with 13 mass spectrometers and ancillary equipment – group size 25 scientists. Apart from the core research programmes within CPR, the groups has many active collaborations with other academics who wish to apply proteomics to their research problems, ranging from chemical communication in rodents to biomarker discovery and assay in a range of clinical programmes. The group is adept and handling diverse samples such as cells, urine, plasma, CSF and tissues and has a strong reputation for quantitative proteomics and in the development of QconCATs. Current grant funding exceeds £10M.
