Ms Jan Nugara held roles at The Pearson Group and British Airways (BA) in both professional services and operational capacities, including private consultancy for Boeing/BA system developments.
After relocating to Liverpool in 2001, she joined the University of Liverpool, completing accountancy qualifications with membership of the Association of Accounting Technicians (MAAT) and the Chartered Institute for Management Accountants (CIMA).
With a proven track record in senior leadership and management positions, Jan has extensive experience overseeing strategic, operational, and financial functions across complex research environments. Recent roles have included managing the day-to-day strategic, operational, and financial activities for research centres such as the University of Liverpool Centre of Excellence in Infectious Diseases Research, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Currently working as Head of Strategic Operations for the RUEDI (Relativistic Ultrafast Electron Diffraction & Imaging) National Facility, Jan oversees the non-technical operational and financial aspects of the project, with focus on the RUEDI Science Programme. Alongside this, she also holds operational roles at two successful University spin-out companies — SenseAI Vision Limited and Plasma2X Innovations — where she manages key operational, financial, and logistical tasks that support business growth and innovation.
Experienced in establishing robust governance structures and coordinating high-performing, cohesive teams with clear strategic direction, Jan leverages an extensive network of internal and external partners, stakeholders, and collaborators across global organisations, higher education institutions, research funders, charitable bodies, and the commercial and public sectors, including government agencies.
