Year 2 Director, MBChB Programme
School of Medicine, Institute of Life Course & Medical Sciences, Faculty of Health & Life Sciences

As Year 2 Director of the MBChB Programme, I lead undergraduate medical education in the School of Medicine, combining extensive frontline clinical experience with a deep commitment to innovative, student-centred teaching. I am an Honorary Professor at the University of Chester Medical School, and have previously served as an Honorary Lecturer at Newcastle University and the University of Liverpool.

Over my career, I have designed, led, and delivered teaching programmes for medical students, junior doctors, and allied health professionals across varied clinical and classroom settings, employing case-based, problem-based, tutorial, and simulation-based learning modalities. My teaching is informed by an MA in Clinical Education from Edge Hill University, alongside specialist training in coaching and mentoring through the NHS Northwest Leadership Academy.

I have taken lead roles in supervising, appraising, and mentoring specialist cardiac registrars, overseeing training in cardiac catheterisation and PCI at both the Countess of Chester Hospital and Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital. As Educational Supervisor at COCH for over a decade, I have supported medical students at all stages through lectures, CBL sessions, and OSCE preparation, and have acted as a PACES examiner for the MRCP examinations with the Royal College of Physicians.

My postgraduate and allied health contributions include Deputy Programme Director for Cardiology in the Mersey region, Physician Education Supervisor, MSc-level lecturer, and educator on diverse clinical skills courses. I regularly deliver invited talks and organize educational events at local, national, and international levels, embedding current research and best practice into all teaching.

From 2017 to 2024, I also served as Appraisal and Revalidation Lead at COCH, overseeing appraisal processes for over 300 doctors, ensuring robust professional development and quality assurance. My leadership has created supportive, inclusive learning environments built on a mentorship philosophy and commitment to the wellbeing and progression of all learners.

I am strongly dedicated to the integration of simulation, research-informed teaching, and cross-disciplinary collaboration, continually refining educational approaches to meet the needs of diverse learners and the evolving demands of modern medical practice.
