Academic Lead for Employability and Placements
School of the Arts

About

I am a Lecturer in School of the Arts and lead the employability based modules in the School. I am the Programme Leader for our Year in Industry pathway, as well as our final year placement modules SOTA300 and HASS300, where students get valuable work experience linked to their career aspirations. I've supported students working in companies ranging from BT, Siemens and GSK to Primark, Unilever, Bentley and more. More locally, I support students working in the Liverpool City Regions in organisations such as Liverpool University Press, Liverpool Echo, the Open Eye Gallery, and various Social Enterprises.

After gaining my Masters degree in Education, I moved on to my PhD in Education at Lancaster University, which I hope to complete by 2026. My research focus is Employability for the Arts, where I am exploring how economic models have influenced our understanding of Employability, and how this translates to the Arts graduate. I am also part of a research group analysing the access gap in placements.

After graduating from the University of Liverpool's Management School, I started my career in Further Education, working as a Universities and Careers Adviser. I then moved on to working in Higher Education in Ireland, where I advised international students on their study, progression and visa options, as well as managing the administration for an MBA programme. I continued working in the field of Further Education whilst building a businesses in commercial property. This skillset lead me to working at Liverpool John Moores University as an Enterprise Education Officer, where I helped students and staff become more entrepreneurial, as well as carrying out research projects. I am still successful business owner today in the Hospitality and Tourism industries.
