Behaviour
Behavioural problems are not only worrying for horse owners and vets, they can also cause a risk of injury to the horse and people around them.
Understanding why a horse, donkey or pony is behaving in a particular way involves assessing them in their surroundings, ruling out underlying problems such as pain due to lameness or other disease conditions, and employing behaviour training using appropriate welfare-friendly methods.
Luke Edwards has a particular interest in equine behaviour and is happy to undertake further assessment of your horse and provide behaviour training and advice. For more details, please contact our reception team on 0151 794 6199 or via email equinepr@liverpool.ac.uk.
Other resources
The British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) has produced a series of short videos, featuring veterinary surgeon and equine behaviourist Gemma Pearson (who is based at the University of Edinburgh’s Vet School).
These videos provide quick and simple ways of teaching horses to be quiet, relaxed and safe for injections, clipping, worming, examinations and other veterinary procedures using appropriate, welfare-friendly methods.
