Neonatology (foals)
We offer a full range of round the clock, high level care for foals following birth. We also provide medical and surgical management of broodmares including mares with dystocia, emergency and elective caesarean section, uterine tears and other foaling related injuries.
Critical care of sick newborns
We have large mare and foal stables in our intensive care unit which are ideally equipped for management of sick foals or mares.
Each stable has removable dividers to allow safe separation of the mare and foal whilst allowing continued bonding, CCTV monitoring, fluid therapy and electrical supply for warming blankets or specialised pumps. We have on-site facilities for a range of blood testing, blood-gas analysis, blood pressure monitoring, electrocardiogram (ECGs), imaging and more. We are able to provide 24 hour a day, vital support for the sick foal to support them in their journey back to health.
Management of developmental conditions
As foals mature, they can develop conditions which need careful management to avoid further complications later in life.
Common examples of these may be limb deformities, which may require remedial farriery, or in more severe cases surgical correction in conjunction with our orthopaedic teams, or foals with respiratory or other congenital disorders.
