Intensive care unit (ICU)
We have state-of-the-art facilities and can provide specialist and equine veterinary care round the clock. We can provide critical care for a range of cases providing high-level monitoring, diagnostics, medical therapy surgical treatment and advanced post-surgical care.
Our team of veterinary specialist surgeons include American and European boarded specialists in internal medicine, surgery, anaesthesia and imaging, who work together to provide high-level multidisciplinary patient care.
We are renowned worldwide for our experience in the treatment and management of colic, one of the most common reasons for admission for critical care. We are also able to provide intensive care for horses with infectious diseases (e.g. severe diarrhoea) that may spread to other horses or people in our purpose-built, modern isolation unit.
Our critical care facilities and services offered include:
- 11 dedicated intensive care stables, including two mare and foal stables
- CCTV monitoring equipment and round the clock in-person intensive care assessments
- Dedicated examination area within the intensive care unit
- 4 separate, state-of-the-art isolation stables, including its own examination area
- On-site laboratory for immediate blood and fluid analysis
- Two fully equipped surgical theatres with four induction/recovery boxes
- Full range of conventional and advanced imaging equipment and on-site imaging expertise
- Advanced medical support including fluid therapy and administration of blood or plasma transfusions
- Advanced pain management including epidurals and continuous rate infusions
- On-site specialist microbiology teams who can provide diagnostics and assist with routine hospital biosecurity surveillance.
