Radiography (X-Ray)
Radiography of horses is a diagnostic imaging technique used to examine the bones, joints, and some soft tissues of horses. We can perform a full range of assessments of the musculoskeletal system including the neck, legs, back and pelvis.
This enables us to perform further assessment of the soft tissues and bone including:
- Lameness examination: Radiography is often employed when a horse exhibits signs of lameness, to help diagnose fractures, joint problems, or degenerative changes like arthritis
- Fractures and bone abnormalities: It helps detect fractures, stress fractures, or bone infections, especially in areas like the legs and hooves
- Joint and Soft Tissue Imaging: It’s also used to evaluate joint conditions, such as osteoarthritis, bone spurs, and soft tissue injuries
- Hoof and leg conditions: Radiographs are crucial for assessing the health of the hooves and legs. They can identify issues like laminitis or navicular disease
- Intraoperative use: During surgeries, radiographs can help guide a veterinarian to ensure proper alignment or placement of implants in orthopaedic surgeries.
In some cases, further advanced assessments may be advised following the initial assessment and options for this including costs can be provided.
