Advanced diagnostic imaging
The Philip Leverhulme Equine Hospital has a state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging centre. An accurate diagnosis allows us to develop the best treatment plan. The type of imaging required will depend on the suspected problem and the affected area.
Our board certified diagnostic imaging specialist provides advanced imaging reporting, ensuring prompt and in depth evaluation for advanced imaging techniques including CT and MRI. We also advise on images acquired by our referring vets who are seeking a specialist opinion.
Computed Tomography (CT)
Our purpose built CT imaging suite with a 90cm wide bore gantry is the largest size available for horses in the UK. Our state-of-the-art system is one of only a few similar systems in the world.
Gamma scintigraphy (bone scans)
Our scintigraphy facility is invaluable in performing comprehensive whole horse evaluations to allow investigation of potential fractures, as well as directing further investigations in challenging lameness examinations.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
Our advanced MRI allows for detailed 3D assessment of the soft tissues (including the hoof wall) of the foot, pastern, fetlock, cannon region and lower hock and carpal regions.
Ultrasound
We have wide ranging ultrasonographic capabilities, with machines specifically designed for thoracoabdominal (chest and abdomen), orthopaedic, ocular, and cardiology evaluations, depending on your horse’s needs.
X-Ray (Radiography)
We have a dedicated radiography facility with a computed radiography system, and both a gantry mounted generator, to ensure high quality radiographs of all part of the horse, and a lightweight mobile generator, allowing radiography to be performed at any location in the hospital.
Endoscopy
We have a range of specialist endoscopes that can be used to assess the gastrointestinal tract as well as the upper airway.
Fluoroscopy
Our fluoroscopy imager uses continuous X-Ray to obtain real time moving images of the inside of your horse's body.
