Our facilities
Our Equine Hospital is one of the most comprehensive equine referral and teaching centres in the UK. We are a Tier 3 Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons accredited hospital, one of the few such facilities in North West England.
We have a full range of diagnostic and treatment facilities led by specialist veterinary surgeons, veterinary nursing and technical teams. We provide 24 hour high level multidisciplinary care including protocols for disinfection, cleaning, biosecurity monitoring and appropriate use of antimicrobials according to BEVA ProtectMe guidelines to provide optimal patient care and outcomes.
We have high quality stabling for a total of 42 in-patients, two fully equipped operating theatres, a standing surgery suite, two additional standing dental treatment and surgical areas and four indoor examination areas. The hospital has hard and soft lunge areas, a trot up area and an arena for assessing horses being ridden. We also have eight turn-out paddocks and other grazing areas for hospital inpatients.
We offer advanced laboratory testing with a full range of on-site equipment and specialist expertise for the analysis and interpretation of all major laboratory samples.
Advanced diagnostic imaging
Standard (x-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy of the upper airway, gastroscopy) and advanced imaging including CT, MRI, gamma scintigraphy, fluoroscopy.
Advanced surgery
We have a range of state of the art surgical facilities and equipment enabling us to offer a full range surgical procedures.
Operating theatres
We have two highly equipped operating theatres for orthopaedic and soft tissue procedures. These are ready to treat emergency cases 24 hours a day, alongside a wide-ranging elective surgery workload.
Biosecurity
Biosecurity and infection control are essential aspects at health care facilities. We have policies and procedures to minimise the risk of disease outbreaks.
Equestrian
Our equestrian facilities provide specialist care for horses ensuring their well-being and recovery.
Intensive care unit (ICU)
Our state-of-the-art ICU facilities can provide 24 hours a day specialist and equine veterinary care 365 days a year.
Isolation facilities
We have a dedicated isolation facility specifically designed for the treatment and stabling of horses with suspected or confirmed infections that can spread to other horses and sometimes to people.
