The partnership is anchored by world-leading advanced materials research through the Materials Innovation Factory, enabling wider innovation across microbiome and hygiene, brain and behaviour, and corporate heritage, and delivering tangible benefits for both organisations and the wider economy. It has contributed to innovations launched across 18 of Unilever’s 30 global Power Brands, generated 350 patents and produced 85 co-authored research publications.
The partnership has also attracted £136 million in research investment to the University and supported the creation of seven spin-out companies. Beyond research, it is helping to develop the talent pipeline of the future, supporting more than 140 doctoral researchers and over 60 postgraduate studentships.
Together, the partnership is strengthening Liverpool City Region’s innovation ecosystem, enhancing the UK’s research capability and creating solutions that improve lives around the world.
