The School of Allied Health Professions and Nursing has announced the appointment of Vicky Thornton as Interim Dean.
A registered nurse with extensive experience in clinical practice, education and academic leadership, Vicky has worked at the University of Liverpool since 2005.
During this time, she has held a range of roles across nursing education, admissions and the student experience, alongside leading curriculum development for nursing and health-related programmes. Vicky is also currently Chair of Central University Research Committee C.
Commenting on her appointment, Vicky said: “Many colleagues will know me from my roles across nursing and admissions, and it is a real privilege to now support colleagues as the Interim Dean.
“I am very aware of how busy this period is, particularly with the delivery of Curriculum 2027 and the upcoming HCPC review, and these are key priorities that I am committed to supporting.
“Alongside this, I am keen to continue to support the professional development of staff across the School, enabling us to continue to prepare excellent graduates who improve health outcomes and deliver high-quality, compassionate care across diverse communities.”
Prior to joining the University, Vicky worked clinically in intensive care and as a Regional Donor and Recipient Transplant Coordinator across Merseyside, Cheshire and North Wales.
She was awarded a Doctorate in Medical Ethics from Keele University in 2015 and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Her professional interests include clinical and research ethics, palliative and end of life care, critical care, organ donation and transplantation, and women’s health.
