Dr Pete Bridge, Senior Lecturer in Therapeutic Radiography and Oncology, has been named Lecturer of the Year at the University’s annual Staff Awards, a testament to his innovative teaching methods and dedication to student learning.
Alongside his teaching role, Dr Bridge leads Interprofessional Learning (IPL) within the School, where his work is closely tied to research-led education and simulation-based learning. He has played a key part in introducing advanced technologies like VERT and ECLIPSE into clinical radiotherapy teaching, helping to bring the realities of practice into the classroom and improve learning outcomes for students.
Much of his teaching focuses on fostering collaboration, inclusivity and innovation. He’s reshaped the Year 1 Radiation Physics module by incorporating gamification and hands-on activities—such as LEGO-based learning and “Keep Talking and Write” workshops—that aim to build teamwork, creativity and time management skills. These changes support the University’s 2031 Strategy, which emphasises student engagement and real-world preparedness.
Dr Bridge recently completed a PhD on the use of 3D technology in radiotherapy structure outlining. He has also led several major funded projects exploring how simulation and virtual reality can be used more widely in healthcare education.
Outside the classroom, he serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Radiotherapy in Practice, highlighting his ongoing commitment to both academic development and the broader radiotherapy profession.
