Sustainable travel

The University is committed to encouraging sustainable travel behaviours by offering a range of award-winning sustainable travel initiatives and facilities.

There are many environmental and personal health benefits associated with sustainable travel. By choosing to travel sustainably you’re helping to reduce carbon emissions, improve local air quality, reduce traffic congestion and improve local communities. Our sustainable travel initatives are designed to support a healthy work-life balance and save money.

The University of Liverpool also formally promotes hybrid and flexible working through its Flexible Working Policy, enabling staff to work from home or on campus as appropriate. Hybrid working is now standard practice across most roles, improving wellbeing while reducing commuting demand and parking pressures. Remote and flexible working directly support the University’s Climate Plan targets, contributing to lower Scope 3 commuting emissions and a more inclusive, sustainable working culture.

Initiatives to support smart travel

The University is easily accessible by road, bike, and public transport and however you choose to commute, the University offers a range of initiatives and incentives available to to support sustainable travel to and from campus. Check out our Active Travel campus map.
