Sustainable buildings
Understanding the environmental and social impacts when building, renovating or maintaining buildings is essential. It helps us lower the University's carbon footprint while creating high-quality, sustainable buildings. We use BREEAM to evaluate the sustainability of new developments, aiming for BREEAM Excellent ratings across our estate. We have also invested in a new Sustainable Built Environment Investment Framework, a design guide with high level principles in governance and ten other optic areas concerning the impact of the built environment within the University of Liverpool on the sustainability of the environment, society and the University itself. This document will act as a guide to shape thinking and stretching targets that support our ambition to reach Net Zero for scope 1 and 2 carbon by 2035.
We aim to give our staff and students the best environment for learning and research. This includes encouraging them to use the campus as a living laboratory for research, teaching and learning. This contributes to the sustainability of our campus community and overall student experience.
