Benchmarking and reporting
At the University of Liverpool, we are committed to being open and transparent about our sustainability progress. This page brings together our benchmarking results, reporting frameworks, and annual Sustainable Development Goals Report, showing how we measure performance, and track progress against our targets.
Our progress is publicly reported through the University’s annual Financial Statements and in our annual SDG Report. Environmental data is reported through the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), and our progress towards net zero is reported using the sector-specific Standardised Carbon Emissions Framework (SCEF).
We also monitor and report our environmental performance through our Environmental Management System (EMS) and benchmark against sector wide frameworks such as the Concordat for the Environmental Sustainability of Research and Innovation Practice. In addition, we hold external accreditations including ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and Fairtrade University Accreditation, ensuring our reporting is robust, consistent, and externally validated.
Our progress is being recognised internationally:
- Ranked 42nd globally in the QS Sustainability Rankings
- A top 100 institution worldwide in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings.
- Ranked 37th in the UK in the People & Planet University League, achieving a 2:1 class sustainable university status.
