Education for Sustainable Development at the University of Liverpool is built around the interests, needs and ambitions of our students. Our mission is to ensure that every graduate is equipped with the knowledge, understanding, skills and attitudes they need to make their own contribution to a sustainable future.
Dedicated sustainability-focused degree programmes
The University of Liverpool delivers a wide range of degree programmes explicitly focused on sustainability and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across multiple disciplines.
Within the School of Environmental Sciences, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Climate and Ocean Science, Environmental Science, and Geography and Planning integrate sustainability, climate resilience and policy learning throughout their curricula.
Irrespective of degree subject, all students can also take the elective module Sustainability in Action, which applies sustainability principles to real-world challenges across sectors.
Postgraduate provision includes dedicated programmes such as:

- MSc Green Finance and Sustainability Accounting
- MSc Renewable and Sustainable Energy (Eng)
- MA Sustainable Urban Planning
- MA Sustainable Heritage Management
Together, these programmes embed sustainability across the curriculum, equipping students with the knowledge and skills to address global sustainability challenges.

Education for Sustainable Development Working Group
The Education for Sustainable Development Working Group is built around the needs and ambitions of our students. The group aims to coordinate activities to educate and enable students to make their own contribution to a sustainable future. The group develop learning experiences in sustainable development and provide opportunities for students to initiate their own projects; or to join existing activities locally, nationally, and internationally.
