Year in China

Spend an academic year fully immersing yourself in Chinese culture and study.

Choosing to spend a year in China will extend your degree by a year. So, if you're on a standard three-year BA or BSc programme, this would mean your course would last four years. The title of your degree would also change to the subject you're studying 'with a year in China', for example BSc Physics with a Year in China.

Year in China pathways

You can choose from three year in China pathways:

• China Studies based at our Suzhou campus, where you'll study Chinese language, culture and society
• Entrepreneurship, which is focused on enterprise, business and developing your entrepreneurial skills, based at our Taicang campus
• Creative, with modules related to the creative industries including media production, based at our Suzhou campus.

All pathways are open to students from any degree programme eligible for the year in China opportunity, so you don't have to be studying a related course to be accepted.

How does a Year in China fit in to my degree?

When you can take your year in China will depend on when you started your University of Liverpool degree and the course you're studying:

• If you started your degree before September 2024, you can choose to complete your year in China either between years two and three of your degree, or after the final year of your degree.
• If you started your degree after September 2024, you'll complete your year in China after the final year of your degree.
• If you're studying Medicine, Veterinary Medicine or a course within Allied Health Professions and Nursing, please speak to your department or our Global Opportunities team to find out about the study abroad opportunities available to you.
