Molecular diagnostics

All suspected methicillin resistant isolates are tested and we have extended our polymerase chain reaction (PCR) panel for detection of infectious agents or bacterial strain typing.

All suspected methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), S. pseudintermedius (MRSP) or S. schleiferi (MRSS) isolates are tested by PCR for confirmation of mecA or mecC carriage.

Furthermore, we have expanded our diagnostic PCR panel for detection of infectious agents or bacterial strain typing to include:

  • Streptococcus equi ssp. equi (alongside bacterial culture)
  • C. perfringens (biotyping, enterotoxin and β2 toxin detection)
  • C. difficile toxA/B detection (toxA or toxB PCR and immuno-chromatography)
  • Staphylococcus aureus ST398 screening.
