It exists to promote research into all aspects of the thought of America’s greatest-ever philosopher-theologian, Reverend Jonathan Edwards (1703–1758). The Centre runs an annual public lecture on the thought of Edwards, together with an annual summer school studying one of Edwards’s key texts. The texts studied so far have been Freedom of the Will, Original Sin, and Dissertation Concerning the End for Which God Created the World, and The Nature of True Virtue. The speakers have been Paul Helm (twice), Kenneth Minkema, and Michael McClenahan.
The Centre welcomes PhD students with an interest in Jonathan Edwards, and provides an opportunity for staff and PhD students working on Edwards to spend time at Yale using the collections there.
