Selection process and professional standards
An overview of our selection process, as well as the standards you'd need to meet to register as a pharmacy professional.
Interviews
If you are assessed as suitable you will be invited to a selection interview. All applicants will be required to be interviewed online, or in person at the University in exceptional circumstances. The interviews will assess whether your values and behaviours align with those of the profession and the NHS values through a range of scenarios.
The Occupational Health process
In line with the General Pharmaceutical Council’s (GPhC) student code of conduct and fitness to practise procedures, after accepting a Conditional Firm or a Conditional Insurance offer, undergo a health check by our Occupational Health Service, attend any subsequent appointments and receive all of the tests and necessary vaccinations, as appropriate to undertake clinical placements safely.
Standards for pharmacy professionals
As a pharmacy professional, you’ll want to make a positive difference to people’s health and wellbeing. As well as having extensive knowledge of pharmacy, there are nine standards you’ll need to demonstrate to join our register and be fit to practise.
Pharmacy professionals must:
- provide person-centred care
- work in partnership with others
- communicate effectively
- maintain, develop and use professional knowledge and skills
- use professional judgement
- behave in a professional manner
- respect and maintain the person’s confidentiality and privacy
- speak up when they have concerns or when things go wrong
- demonstrate leadership
