About
I am a Professor in Digital Enterprise at the University of Liverpool. At the center of my research and teaching is the problem of societal governance: the decision-making structures and processes through which the direction of society is set. My work explores which of these governance forms — from corporation-led forms, to public-sector-led and community-based ones — are more effective than others at confronting grand challenges such as AI, inequality, and climate change.
Before joining Liverpool, I was Associate Professor in Technology, Organisation and Sustainability at the University of Leeds. Before I joined academia, I led complex transformation projects with partners across industry and in the public and non-profit sectors. Alongside this, I have taught at the Universities of Belgrade, Bonn, Hamburg, Hanover and Milan. My PhD is from the University of Helsinki.
At the European Group for Organizational Studies (EGOS), I am lead coordinator of the Standing Working Group on “Societal Governance in the Face of Polycrisis: Exploring Alternatives through International and Comparative Research”. Through the group, we run an international online seminar series bringing together scholars on societal governance across disciplines and regions, and we will convene a sub-theme at the EGOS Colloquium 2027 in Liverpool.
