Research Interests
Mike has research interests in two broad areas: (i) public law, in particular constitutional law, practice, theory and reform, especially from a UK perspective; and, (ii) legal and political theory, in particular the relationships between law and politics, rights and democracy, and theories of government and constitutionalism.
He is the co-director (with Dr Steph Reynolds) of the Liverpool Public Law Unit.
Mike is currently supervisor to two PhD students. He has supervised seven PhD students to completion, covering a range of research topics in public law and legal theory, with UK, European, and international dimensions. He has examined research degrees both internally and externally, in the UK and internationally.
Mike would be interested to hear from prospective postgraduate students who wish to complete projects within his area(s) of research.
