About

I am a Senior Lecturer in Chinese Studies at the Department of Languages, Cultures and Film, where I also coordinate the Confucius Institute within the School of Histories, Languages and Cultures — a role that reflects my long-standing commitment to cultural dialogue and exchange.

My academic formation has unfolded across three cultural contexts — Mainland China, France, and the United Kingdom — shaping both my intellectual commitments and my research sensibility. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Chinese Language and Literature from Peking University and a PhD in Transcultural Studies from France, where my doctoral work examined Chinese rock music and modern social transformation. This trajectory across cultures, languages, and disciplines fundamentally shapes both my scholarly identity and the way I approach my research.

Beyond the academic, I am drawn to a wider set of questions that I consider equally central to my scholarly sensibility: Eastern philosophy, Buddhist studies, the study of mind and consciousness; the mechanisms through which cultures, values, and ways of thinking are formed and transmitted; the construction of self-perception and social identity; and the pursuit of transcendence within the cultural milieu of Asia and beyond.

Outside of academia, I find sustenance in music, meditation, hiking, cultural travel, dancing, and art. As a practicing Buddhist, my spiritual practice and scholarly work are driven by the same fundamental questions.
