Liverpool Wilderness Medicine Society (LWMS)

Ever wondered what you should do if you were the FPOS (first person on scene) to an RTA?  What can you do when they ask for a medic on a transatlantic flight for the man with chest pain?  Can you stop a stabbing victim from haemorrhaging out on the street in front of you? Be in the know.

Come join us in our hands-on teaching sessions every Thursday, where you’ll learn not just the ABCs, but the A-E and beyond of managing medical emergencies, even before your clinical years! Learn how to identify & manage extreme environment pathology from blistering heat, bitter cold and altitude & dive medicine, to the trials & tribulations of tropical diseases & trauma care, to how to deliver a baby and major incident management.

Our weekly sessions centre around teaching by senior students and guest speakers in specialist fields, careers talk on expedition, wilderness & prehospital medicine, all loaded with simulated patient scenarios in which to try out your new skills! Escaping the urban wilderness, we host our Intro Weekend in the relative wilderness of Wales. Featuring an immersive weekend of workshops by day, search & rescue mission by night, and culminating in the a simulated mass casualty scenario, this is an experience like no other. Tickets are limited so keep an eye out for the release date! Although partial to the occasional mountain, it is far from all we get up to; join one of our Wilderwalks (walk being a relative term) as far as North Wales to hone your navigation skills or just escape the urban rat race.

Keep an eye on our Facebook page for our upcoming Intro to A-E Sessions where you can get hands on in some fun scenarios & meet the Wilderness team! Get stuck in and get out there. The wilderness, urban or rural, awaits.

Teddy Bear Hospital

Teddy Bear Hospital is an organisation that teaches school children about health and well being, as well as encouraging them to interact with medical professionals so that they are more likely to have a positive experience if they need medical attention. The children bring their teddies along with them to the sessions, which are held in schools and extra-curricular groups such as Rainbows and Cubs, and the teddy bear doctors (our volunteers) 'treat' their teddies, as well as teaching them about things like healthy eating, the body, and hand washing.
