Hundreds of student doctors have set up and take part in societies and all the great work and activities that go along with them. Find the society that works for you!

Sports and Exercise Medicine (LivSEMSoc)

LivSEMSoc aims to provide an insight into one of Medicine's newest and most competitive fields with a multidisciplinary approach. We hope to educate medical students and physios on the day to day and, of course, the weird and wonderful conditions a SEM doctors and physios encounter. In addition, we will go into how to get into this specialised field of medicine and the opportunities available to SEM doctors.

We will be putting on a range of talks and workshops throughout the year, with specialists in the field, to prepare you for practical exams and hopefully get you interested in the field of Sports medicine. Looking forward to seeing you!!!

LMSS Sports Clubs

The Liverpool Medical Students Society (LMSS) is the oldest and largest medical student society at the UK, and as well as many other activities and interests they are home to numerous sports clubs. See an introduction to each below and view the full details on the LMSS Sports pages of their website (link).

LMSS | Liverpool Medics Rugby Club

The LMSRFC. Three times NAMS plate finalists in the last four years, twice champions. Our club competes in the NAMS cup with other Medical School rugby teams with much recent success. We play most of our rugby in regular Saturday matches against local men's teams, with our training sessions being on Wednesday evenings.  Our activity as a club does not just stop on the rugby field, having frequent post-match socials throughout the year.

There is a great teaching ethos within our club, with older years always willing to teach the lower years, allowing everyone to have a smooth run through the five years of medical school.

We would like to encourage any level of rugby to join, from those who have played all their lives to those who've never held an egg-shaped ball!

LMSS | Liverpool Medical School Womens Netball

Liverpool Medics Netball Club is a big club made up of girls from all years of the medical school. We have 4 teams that play in competitive weekly matches, and we also have players that just come to training for some fun and social netball playing! Last year we reached one of our highest member totals ever, with around 100 players joining the club at the start of the year, and we can’t wait to see lots of new and returning faces this year.

LMSS | Mixed Hockey (LMSHC)

We welcome everyone from absolute beginners to any of the international professionals amongst. We have hockey sticks available for those of you who don’t have their own or didn’t bring it to uni too. We have a great group of members from all year groups, it’s an excellent opportunity for you to mix with older year groups and make some of friends you’ll have for the rest of medical school! We have three teams and all of them are mixed sex. We play in the university campus league and against other medical schools in the regional NAMS tournament.

LMSS | Liverpool Medical School Mens Football Club

The LMSFC is one of the biggest clubs within the LMSS, in which we have three 11-a-side teams and a 6-a-side team playing regular games throughout the year in the university campus league. Every year we compete in the National Association of Medical Schools (NAMS) football tournament against other medical schools across the country. In 2018 we smashed it and came out as champions, usually having a good run in the competition.

Whether you are playing competitively or just want a kick about with some mates, we encourage everyone to come down to training every Tuesday 8-9:30pm @ Wyncote. It is a great opportunity to improve your footballing ability as well as meeting people from every year at training and at our socials. We have some great socials planned this year so get stuck in!

LMSS | Liverpool Medical School Women's Football Club

We have members from all years of the medical school with all levels of footballing ability. We play regular 7 aside campus league games, for those who relish the competition, and train once a week at Wyncote for those who enjoy exercise, socialising and learning new skills. We are a very close knit group who meet up regularly for events such as pub quizzes, wine and cheese nights and post- training drinks as well as annual events such as Christmas dinner and AGM.

LMSS | Liverpool Medical School Mixed Tennis Club

If you’re interested in playing tennis this year then we’d love to have you! We welcome any player from beginner to performance. Even if you’ve never played before, don’t be worried about giving it a go. It’s a great club that’s excited to see some fresh faces and get some good socials going this year!

LMSS | Liverpool Medical School Mixed Squash Club

At Liverpool we have four recently refurbished courts within the gymnasium itself and these are available to book from 7am-10pm 7 days a week. As a club we train on a Tuesday evening for an hour and a half and usually go for a drink afterwards, whether that be alcoholic or not is your choice! For those who like competition we usually set up a ladder throughout the year for you to challenge students in different years, in November time there is a NAMS tournament which involves medical schools from around the country competing for the trophy. And of course not to forget, we have our own club socials which are always a great way to meet new people whilst enjoying your favourite curry.

All in all, whether you have played or you haven’t, give it a go, we are all very approachable and friendly people and are more than happy to help you improve not only your squash capabilities but with academia too.

LMSS | Liverpool Medical School Cricket Club

Training on Wednesdays 21:00 - 22:00 at St Francis Xavier School

LMSS | Liverpool Medical School Basketball Club

Whether you're an avid baller or just want to try something new, come down to medics ball and shoot some hoops with is. Everyone is welcome! We train once a week on a Thursday at the Firefit Hub in Toxteth. We have been all over the UK for NAMS tournaments against other medical schools and are planning on having a friendly game every 3 weeks against some other teams in Liverpool next year.
