Personal Statement

Mr John Taylor is a Consultant Trauma & Emergency General Surgeon and Clinical Director at Aintree University Hospital in Liverpool.

He completed his medical training at the University of Liverpool in 1993, along with gaining an intercalated BSc(Hons) degree in Anatomy in 1990.
After House Officer posts at Broadgreen Hospital and a post as a Demonstrator in the Department of Anatomy, he completed both core level and specialist training in General and Vascular Surgery on Merseyside as well as a research fellowship in the USA at the Price Institute, University of Louisville, Kentucky. This period of research lead to the award of the ChM degree from the University of Liverpool after submitting a thesis focused on Trauma Immunology.

From 2007 to 2014 Mr Taylor was a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at the North Devon District Hospital before returning to Aintree to take up an appointment focused on acute surgical care and trauma, both emerging subspecialties which he had an interest in whilst training.

Mr Taylor remains linked to the University as a Honorary Senior Lecturer and Curriculum lead for Acute Surgery and Hon. Clinical Demonstrator in the Department of Anatomy.

In his spare time he trains in Shotokan Karate, holding a 4th Dan Black Belt and a black belt in Ryukyu Kobudo (Classical Okinawan Weapons) as well as keeping tropical fish.
