Personal Statement

Dr Hyland is a Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry, employed on a full-time basis by Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust at Clock View Hospital, a psychiatric inpatient unit in Liverpool.

Dr Hyland commenced the dual roles of Deputy Clinical Director for Year 4 and Specialty Lead for General Adult Psychiatry in November 2018. He regularly supervises Year 4 students placed at Clock View Hospital. He regularly participates as an Examiner for medical undergraduate OSCE exams and LOCAS and is involved in writing psychiatry OSCE and written paper questions. Dr Hyland participates in UCAS Medicine interviews on an annual basis. He is an Academic Advisor to several Year 1 students and a Year 1 Research Supervisor.

Aside of his medical undergraduate roles, Dr Hyland also has a keen interest in postgraduate medical education. He is Clinical Supervisor for a Core and a Higher Trainee and has experience as a Clinical Supervisor for Foundation Trainees based at Clock View Hospital. He is involved in the annual ARCP reviews for Foundation Trainees, Core Trainees in psychiatry and Higher Trainees in general adult psychiatry. He regularly interviews for the national recruitment of both Core Trainees in psychiatry and Higher Trainees in general adult psychiatry.
