Short story competition terms and conditions
The terms and conditions of entry to the short story competition 2025 for schools are listed below.
- The short story competition is open to all University of Liverpool partner school pupils.
- The competition will close at 4:59pm on Sunday 27 July. Submissions received after this date will not be considered.
- Submissions must be sent (by schools, not individual pupils) via the online entry form unless otherwise agreed in writing by the competition organisers. Schools should nominate up to 5 entries per category only. Submissions from individuals will not be accepted.
- The maximum word count for each entry is 500 words. If any submissions exceed this word count, only the first 500 words will be considered. There is no minimum word count.
- Submissions must be written in English.
- Submissions must be entirely the work of the competition entrant.
- Submissions will be judged by a panel of staff and student members from across the University.
- All submissions will be anonymised before being made available to the judging panel.
- Published authors should not enter the competition.
- Only one submission is permitted per entrant.
- Competition prizes will be allocated as follows:
Years 7-9 category:
- 1st prize - £100 Liverpool One voucher and publication in the festival anthology
- 2nd prize - £50 Liverpool One voucher and publication in the festival anthology.
Years 10-11 category:
- 1st prize - £100 Liverpool One voucher and publication in the festival anthology
- 2nd prize - £50 Liverpool One voucher and publication in the festival anthology.
12. All winners, runners-up and any other submissions which the judging panel deems of interest may be hosted online and displayed on campus.
13. Authors will retain the copyright of their work but agree to grant the University of Liverpool a perpetual, non-exclusive licence to publish the work in all formats.
