This module equips students with the essential quantitative skills required to effectively analyse and interpret financial and accounting data. The module is designed for those looking to build a strong foundation in econometrics and statistical techniques. The module introduces key methodologies used in the accounting and finance industry. Students will learn how to construct and evaluate econometric models, such as ordinary least squares (OLS) estimation. The students will also learn how to test interesting hypotheses and derive meaningful interpretations from the statistical analysis of the data. The students will practice with real-world datasets and financial applications throughout the module. Finally, the students will be able to improve their analytical and computational skills through the use of statistical software (EViews) also adopted in the industry to conduct empirical research. By the end of the module, students will be able to confidently apply quantitative techniques, interpret results, and make data-driven financial decisions.
