Clinical Science (Clinical Scientific Computing) MSc
The Clinical Science (Clinical Scientific Computing) integrated Master’s for NHS Scientist Training Programme trainees develops expertise in clinical scientific computing through university study, workplace learning and research. The course builds core knowledge, specialist skills and professional practice to prepare trainees for a career in the NHS.
Overview
This course cannot be applied for directly and is only for trainees enrolled on the NHS Scientist Training Programme.
The Clinical Science (Clinical Scientific Computing) Master’s is designed exclusively for trainees on the NHS Scientist Training Programme and combines academic study with full-time employment in an NHS trust. The course develops clinical scientific computing skills through a structured three-year programme. In years one and two, trainees build a strong foundation in the core principles of clinical scientific computing, alongside wider topics and professional practice in the NHS. In year three, trainees complete a research project in partnership with their training hospital, allowing them to apply their learning to a real clinical or scientific challenge.
Teaching is closely linked to clinical practice, so students can apply what they learn directly to their day-to-day work. At Liverpool, the course benefits from strong teaching links with local hospitals, giving trainees the chance to learn in a setting shaped by real patient care, innovation and collaboration.
The Scientist Training Programme is the primary route to qualifying as a Clinical Scientist in the UK. The University of Liverpool is the only university in Britain offering a Clinical Scientific Computing Master’s degree as part of the Scientist Training Programme.
