Building a future that people and our planet can thrive in

How do we build tomorrow’s towns and cities, and also preserve and enhance the environment?

Welcome to the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

Our engineers are shaping a better future. From developing innovative solutions that make our built environment more resilient to natural disasters, to designing sustainable dam and drainage systems, their work is driving meaningful progress. We are equally committed to investing in the next generation of changemakers. Through a hands-on, immersive approach to teaching, our students learn by doing. Whether that's designing flood-safe structures in the Materials and Structural Engineering lab, or building homes with natural materials and traditional techniques through our Natural Building workshops.
