Taking cues from the policy document of the TML project, Reframing Language Education for a Global Future, LSiL targets key issues such as the development of cultural literacy in language education, the over-reliance on the association of language and nation, and the lack of visibility of linguistic diversity already present in the local community. This gears the language curriculum to reflect the transnational dimension of the languages and cultures taught at the University of Liverpool.
In the video below, a group of students interviewed peers on the presence and visibility of the Portuguese language and cultures in Liverpool. The video was produced and edited by the students who later submitted a reflection on the experience as part of their assessed coursework for the language module.
