Postgraduate Research Committee
The committee has strategic responsibility and decision-making authority on postgraduate research (PGR) matters including recruitment, funding, student experience and quality.
Terms of Reference
1) To provide strategic oversight of all activity related to postgraduate research across the University.
2) To oversee strategic planning and policy development relating to PGR study, in conjunction with Education Committee and other University Committees as appropriate.
3) To have overall responsibility for the quality of the PGR student experience and the PGR environment at an institutional level, ensuring that performance is commensurate with the University's ambitions to become an international leader and to build its reputation as a provider of PGR degrees.
4) To receive reports from Faculty PGR committees and identify priorities for PGRLG actions (e.g. emerging funding opportunities; recruitment opportunities, PGR partnerships etc).
5) To monitor the requirements and expectations of key national and international agencies including OfS, UKVI, research councils and other sponsors, and to coordinate the University's responses to these, seeking to influence the development of external policy and strategy in respect of PGR study and to ensure the University is appropriately positioned.
6) To work with PGR Leadership Group (PRGLG) to drive continuous improvement in all aspects of PGR activity.
7) To have oversight of the quality and academic standards of the University's PGR provision.
8) To approve minor revisions to policies and codes of practice related to postgraduate research (PGR) study.
9) To recommend proposed changes to Programme Ordinances and significant revisions to policies and codes of practice related to postgraduate research (PGR) study to the Education Committee.
10) To set expectations with respect to PGR recruitment, completions and the quality of the PGR student experience at UoL and to monitor progress towards these expectations using appropriate key performance indicators.
11) To oversee the development and implementation of the University's strategy with respect to Doctoral Training Entities (DTEs), ensuring coordinated institutional-level planning and support for current and proposed DTEs and to consider proposed new doctoral degrees and new doctoral collaborations.
12) To receive reports from and disseminate information to Faculty PGR Directors, the PGRLG and The Academy with respect to strategic PGR matters.
Reporting Relationships
The PGR Committee will report to Education Committee and refer issues to the Research and Impact Committee and other groups as required.
The Committee may establish time-limited groups as necessary to deal with pertinent issues.

Quorum
The quorum for meetings shall be one third of the membership.
Frequency of Meetings
PGR Committee usually meets on 4 occasions during the academic year.

A deputy should attend the Committee in the event that a Committee member is unavailable.
The Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research and Impact and the Pro-Vice Chancellor for Education will attend when required.
