Professor Bruce Gibson, MA, DPhil

Bruce Gibson is Professor of Latin and Head of the Department of Archaeology, Classics and Egyptology at the University of Liverpool, where he has been a member of staff since 1998. His research and teaching have mainly concentrated on Latin authors of the early empire. His particular interest in praise literature in the ancient world has been useful in his University role as Public Orator delivering orations for the recipients of honorary degrees.

External roles beyond the University have included service on the REF sub-panel for Classics in 2014 and now again for 2029. 

Bruce is currently a charitable Trustee for the Society for the Promotion of Roman Studies, The Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland, and the Virgil Society.
