Assessment, REF and KEF preparation
Generative artificial intelligence (GAI) can provide editorial support for processes such as the output evaluation programme (OEP), REF and KEF.
Researchers and professional services teams should ensure practices align to national assessment framework rules (final REF2029 guidance released October 2026), the University's REF/KEF guidance (institutional REF code of conduct, once approved), and University policies and guidance.
GAI may assist our REF preparations, such as submission modelling and editorial drafting. However, in line with our commitment to ensuring academic rigour and integrity, it will not be used for REF decision-making. All REF decisions on research quality, affiliation, selection and submission will be made solely by the REF groups responsible, as set out in Governance procedures.
