Liverpool Advocates

Current University of Liverpool students are an essential part of the work we do.

Acting as real life role models, our Liverpool Advocates act as mentors, tour guides and general support to activities on campus and in schools. Liverpool Advocates work for the Widening Participation and Outreach team, Shaping Futures team and UK Recruitment team. 

The Widening Participation and Outreach team works in partnership with schools and colleges to deliver projects and activities in order to widen access to the University. Our focus is to raise awareness of higher education and to support attainment of students, particularly those students who are traditionally less likely to go to university, such as care experienced, asylum seekers, students estranged from their parents, first in family to attend HE, and more! We provide a programme of activity designed to inform, inspire and enable these students to excel. Shaping Futures is a partnership of 12 local providers of Higher Education schools and colleges across the Liverpool City region who provide impartial information, advice and support on all matters relating to Higher Education in one easily accessible place. The UK Recruitment team run the Universities Open Days, Application Discovery Days, Campus visit days and UCAS fairs across the UK. There is a huge variety of work available within these teams including:

• Leading campus tours
• Providing support on campus visit days during classroom-based sessions
• Delivering talks on campus and in schools
• Tutoring/mentoring young people
• Working on Summer Schools
• Staffing stands at careers fairs and HE events
• Working as part of a team on large-scale Open Days
• Assisting with administrative tasks

Liverpool Advocates are an essential part of this work, acting as positive role models to demystify university by sharing their own experiences and insights. This is a casual, paid role that is designed to fit around your studies. The work is demanding, fun and extremely rewarding!
